The advent of the music video forever changed the face of the music industry. I remember, even at the tender age of 17, tut tutting when friends bought records based on the “awesome video.” I was still a purist at heart.
And then, of course, I promptly went out and bought Stand and Deliver, because in the early 80s, no one did music vids quite like Adam Ant…aka Stuart Leslie Goddard. More than simply a pretty face (Adam was voted sexiest man alive by MTV in ’82), he wrote the lyrics AND designed the storyboard for the vid.
Stand and Deliver entered the UK charts at Number One and stayed there for five weeks. The single has sold well over a million copies. By the way…this is best played LOUD.
